Recovery Gear

How many accessories have you bought since getting your new 4x4? And how many of those do you ever actually use?  See below for explanations of some gear, as well as Sales of recovery gear.

Confused ??!

WHAT SHOULD I BUY?   WHAT DO I NEED?

There are a huge number of accessories and recovery equipment available on the market, and it's important to only buy what you need.  All that gear can cost a fortune, and you want to ensure you get your money's worth.

I can also supply you with equipment throughout Southern Africa.  See Sales below.

These kinetic / snatch ropes pictured on the left are my speciality.  They are a lifetime purchase because of their durability and strength, they have up to 50% stretch at MBS (Maximum Breaking Strength), and you can use them repeatedly without having to wait for them 'recover'.

Tip:  Being nylon they will harden if left in direct sunlight over a long period of time, and you can therefore buy a cover for added protection (pictured in blue).   These nylon ropes have been in use for more than 50 years, and are therefore obviously tried and tested.

It's critically important to match the vehicle mass to the correct MBS rating, and I cover the calculation of this formula in my Offroad Training Courses.

Pictured here are STATIC STRAPS, and BOW- and D-SHACKLES.  As with kinetic straps, the MBS ratings are critically important, and my straps are all ISO and SABS approved.

Tip:  Always check the stitching and for frayed edges - the strap then becomes dangerous to use.

Any shackle that you purchase must be industry rated.  On the left you can see that this shackle is rated for 4¾ tons.

Tip:  When tightening a shackle, do the following - screw the shackle closed (finger-tight), and then loosen it by half a turn.  This will prevent the shackle from tightening under strain, ensuring that you'll never ever get it loose!
